Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI) Launches New Website to Provide the Public with Greater Transparency into the Delivery of Healthcare in the State

Using data from the state’s new all-payer claims database (APCD), the Indiana APCD Website helps consumers shop for healthcare, compare providers, and see quality ratings for health plans

August 7, 2024 – Onpoint Health Data, in partnership with the Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI), Indiana-based web design firm Haystack and project management firm Briljent, is pleased to announce the launch of the Indiana APCD Website – a consumer-focused website that allows Hoosiers to compare average prices for common medical services across health plans and providers throughout the state and explore quality ratings for many of Indiana’s largest health systems.

The website’s price and quality dashboards (Figure 1 and Figure 2, below) are based on data from the Indiana All Payer Claims Database (Indiana APCD), which collects claims data from commercial health plans to provide policymakers, researchers, and consumers with a robust picture of how healthcare is being delivered in Indiana.

In addition to the quality and cost dashboards, the new Indiana APCD Website allows users to explore information about the APCD using the new APCD Snapshot – a series of dashboards that offer information about the data that health plans submit to the APCD (Figure 3), de-identified and aggregated demographic details about the patients – or “members” – whose data are included, and which medical procedures and drug prescriptions are most common in the state. The Indiana APCD Website also offers transparent information about how Indiana and its vendors are safeguarding the privacy of patient information in the APCD and about how this data can be used to help ensure that Hoosiers are getting the care they need at a fair price.

The launch of the Indiana APCD Website and APCD Snapshot follows an 18-month design-and-development process that was a close collaboration between Onpoint, IDOI, Haystack, and Briljent. Our team is proud to support this important work and is excited to continue helping IDOI expand the transparency, availability, and utility of health data in Indiana.
